Standen was built in the 1890s for a London solicitor, his wife Margaret and 7 children. It was designed by Philip Webb who was a friend of William Morris and is a showpiece of the Arts and Crafts movement.
The house is decorated throughout with William Morris carpets, fabrics and wallpapers, tapestries and furniture.
The house retains many of the original light fittings. The beautiful hillside views over the Sussex countryside. There are delightful woodland walks.
Nearby National Trust properties are Nymans Gardens, Sheffield Park Garden and Wakehurst Place.
