Changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace London

Shakespeare poet and playwright

This is the land of Shakespeare and there are nearly always productions of his plays in London and in many other cities.

One of the most exciting developments in recent years is the rebuilding of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on the south bank of The Thames. Plays are produced at The Globe from Spring to Autumn (Fall).

The productions are of a very high standard. The seats around the sides are covered but there is an uncovered area immediately in front of the stage. It is rather hard on the feet and legs but worth it to have a close up view.

The building is open for the whole year. There are tours behind the scenes and there is a cafe. For more detailed information click here

2006 is the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s Macbeth

There is a whole year of celebrations in Stratford with starry casts performing every one of the Bard’s plays. For detailed information click here

The Royal Shakespeare Company

The RSC stage Shakespeare productions in London and at the Memorial Theatre in Stratford on Avon in Warwickshire (about 100 miles north west of London. For more information about the Shakespeare Memorial theatre and Stratford  click here

As with the National Theatre their programmes are performed in repertory.

The National Theatre

The National Theatre also stage productions of Shakespeare plays but as a smaller percentage of their total output. The National Theatre is situated in London on the South Bank of the Thames next to The Royal Festival Hall. For more information click here
