The world famous British Museum is a treasure house of a huge number of objects.  The museum is nearing it’s 250th anniversary and now has the stunning glass roofed Queen Elizabeth II great court which is the largest covered space in Europe There are cafes and restaurants and longer opening hours than the galleries.  At the centre of the Great Court is the newly restored Reading Room which is open to the public

The V&A was founded in 1852 as a museum of manufactures. The V&A houses the world’s greatest collection of decorative arts as well as the national sculpture collection. There are 145 galleries to see but better to choose one or two sections and see them properly rather than dash past everything and see nothing.

The museum also contains the national collections of furniture, glass, ceramics, water-colours, furniture making, jewellery and portrait miniatures. There are around 4 million objects are held in the museum.

It is said there are 68 million items in this magnificent museum. Not all are on view at any one time but from the moment you enter this marvellous building you know you are in for a treat. Allocate as much time as you can.

The Theatre Museum

The Theatre Museum is the national museum of the Performing Arts. Situated in the heart of London's theatreland, it houses the world's leading collection of material relating to the British stage. All the live performing arts are represented, including drama, dance, opera, musical theatre, circus, puppetry, music hall and live art. Visit the web site click here  The Theatre Museum is part of the Victoria and Albert Museum and will probably be relocating the V&A site at the beginning of 2007.

The Theatre Museum is in Covent Garden and right next to The Royal Opera House and round the corner from The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane which is currently playing The Producers. The nearest tube station is Leicester Square. The Theatre Museum is now closed to the public but there are arranged group tours.

The Theatre Museum is managed by the V & A and it is possible the exhibits will be transferred to the V & A building at some time in the future.
